autoInstallFFmpeg.sh – Automate FFmpeg Installation From Source

You probably know that ffmpeg can be installed from official repository of ubuntu using apt but it lacks additional configuration to use 3rd-party libraries. So I always use the instructions used in its Ubuntu Compilation Guide every time I need to update ffmpeg on my box.

Instead of manually doing all instructions from its guide, I came up with a script that should do just the same from its official guide.

Below is the script, tested on Xubuntu but could also be run on any Ubuntu derivatives and Debian based distributions.

Copy the code and save it as autoInstallFFmpeg.sh and then run chmod +x installFFmpeg.sh to make it executable and just type ./installFFmpeg.sh to run it.

I’m not really good at scripting so feel free to leave your comments and suggestions.
